The locket, usually a cool weight against my skin, felt like a tiny ember today, radiating a warmth that was less comforting and more… insistent. It pulsed, a subtle thrumming that vibrated through my bones, and with each pulse, the edges of my reality seemed to fray. The visions, once gentle whispers of another time, were now a full-blown opera, demanding an audience, demanding a decision.

This morning, instead of the usual gentle awakening to sunlight filtering through my curtains, I’d been jolted awake by a particularly vivid scene. Prince Valerius, looking impossibly handsome in a velvet doublet that probably cost more than my entire yearly salary, was pacing his chambers. He was wringing his hands, a gesture that was both endearing and, frankly, a little dramatic.

“My dearest Elara,” he breathed, his voice a silken caress that still managed to sound a tad panicked. “The kingdom… it teeters. The Duke of Grimstone plots, and only your counsel, your… ethereal wisdom, can save us!”
