Chapter 8
Seeds of Change
The desire for redemption ignites. Ashley and Anthony, battered but not broken, acknowledge the desperate need for change. A fragile hope emerges, a shared understanding that healing is possible, if they dare to fight for it.
The air in the cramped, sterile room hung thick with the scent of stale smoke and the unspoken weight of years. Ashley traced the condensation on the grimy windowpane with a fingertip, the blurry cityscape outside a distorted reflection of her own fractured reality. Beside her, Anthony sat hunched, his gaze fixed on the chipped linoleum floor as if it held the answers to questions he was too afraid to ask. Ronan, too young to grasp the full magnitude, had clung to his sister’s leg, a small anchor being pulled away from the only shore he’d ever known. The thought of them, separated, adrift in the cold, uncaring system, was a constant ache behind Ashley’s ribs.
"They looked so… small," Ashley finally whispered, her voice raspy, unused to being anything but a desperate plea or a bitter accusation. The words hung in the air, fragile as butterfly wings, yet heavy with the unshed tears of a thousand broken moments.
