Chapter 6
A Beautiful Little Place
Having faced their trials, Zack and Zoe arrive at their destination. They find not just a place, but their parents, a sanctuary of love and belonging, their quest finally complete.
The air, once thick with the scent of damp earth and the prickle of pine needles, began to soften, carrying on its breath a fragrance Zack and Zoe had only ever dreamed of. A crystal-clear stream meandered through the center of the village, its banks lined with weeping willows that dipped their verdant branches into the water as if in greeting. Sunlight dappled the scene, painting it with a warmth that seeped into Zack and Zoe’s very bones. It was a picture of peace, a sanctuary painted onto the canvas of the world.
Zoe squeezed Zack’s hand, her small fingers trembling slightly. “Zack,” she breathed, her voice a hushed whisper, “do you think… do you think it’s real?”
