Chapter 14
The Whispering Waterfall's Secret
The clue retrieved from the spider web is the final one. It speaks of a place where water sings and secrets hide behind a shimmering curtain. Captain Zoomie recognizes the description: the secluded Whispering Waterfall, hidden deep within the woods, a place rarely visited. As they draw closer, they can hear the gentle roar of the water and see the mist rising. A faint, almost magical shimmer seems to emanate from behind the cascading water, hinting that the leprechaun's treasure is very near. The air feels charged with anticipation.
The web, spun with threads as fine and strong as spun moonlight, had yielded its prize. Russo’s sharp eyes, ever watchful, had spotted the tiny, rolled-up parchment nestled amongst the silken strands. Barnaby, with a clumsy but determined paw, had carefully retrieved it, his tail thumping a nervous rhythm against his flank. He looked up at Captain Zoomie, his eyes wide with a mixture of excitement and apprehension. “What does it mean, Captain?”
Captain Zoomie’s weathered face creased into a thoughtful frown. He stroked his chin, his gaze distant as if peering through the years. “Water sings… a watery tune,” he murmured, the words rolling around his tongue. “A curtain, shimmering bright.” He tapped a gnarled finger against his temple. “I’ve heard tales… of a place, deep in the Whispering Woods. A secluded spot, rarely tread upon by man or beast.”
