Chapter 11
Sly's Boastful Blunder
Meanwhile, Sly and his Sneaky Squirrels have managed to find a different clue, one they believe will lead them directly to the gold. Sly, feeling smug, can't help but boast loudly to his gang, "We'll get that gold before those silly puppies even know what hit them! I'm the smartest squirrel in the woods!" His loud, arrogant chatter attracts the attention of a flock of noisy crows perched in a nearby oak tree. The crows, startled by the racket, swoop down, and in their haste, snatch the very clue Sly was holding, flying off with it into the night sky, a perfect example of boastful blunders leading to loss.
Sly, his bushy tail twitching with self-importance, held the crumpled parchment aloft. The flickering lamplight from a nearby spooky Halloween decoration cast long, dancing shadows that seemed to mirror the smug grin on his face. "Behold, my magnificent minions!" he declared, his voice echoing a little too loudly through the hushed, mist-laden graveyard. "While those three fuzzy-brained puppies were sniffing around like lost hounds, I found the real prize!"
His gang of Sneaky Squirrels, a motley crew of twitchy noses and darting eyes, huddled closer, their excitement a palpable buzz. They’d managed to swipe a small, intricately folded note from the base of a particularly gnarled, ancient-looking tombstone, a spot the puppies had overlooked in their frantic search for more of Seamus O’Toole’s cryptic riddles. This one, however, felt different. It was heavier, embossed with a strange, swirling symbol that Sly recognized as a mark of true treasure.
"This," Sly continued, puffing out his chest, "is the final clue! The one that leads directly to the leprechaun's glittering hoard. Those dim-witted dogs wouldn't know a genuine treasure map if it bit them on the tail!" He gestured grandly with the parchment, nearly losing his grip on it. "We'll have that pot of gold before those silly puppies even know what hit them! I'm the smartest squirrel in the woods!"
