Chapter 10

Brenda's Bright Idea

Brenda, seeing the puppies' inquisitive faces and Captain Zoomie's knowing gaze, sighs and confesses. "Oh, dear! You found me out!" she admits sheepishly. She explains that she ‘borrowed’ the fireworks. Her grand plan was to use them to create a truly spectacular, sparkling topping for the enormous Fourth of July cake she was baking for the town’s celebration. She’d intended to meticulously retrieve them before anyone noticed, but got caught up in her creative vision, completely forgetting the time. Her intentions were good, but her execution was flawed.
