Chapter 11: What the Journal Said
Sarah meets Emily at the coffee shop, where Emily reveals her mother's journals containing a letter from Sarah's father that explains the full truth of Liam's departure. The revelation forces Sarah to confront a deeper layer of the past and make a decision about whether to tell Liam.
The coffee shop was warm, the smell of roasted beans and cinnamon filling the air. Emily sat across from Sarah, her fingers wrapped tightly around her untouched cup. Her eyes were red-rimmed, and there was a tremor in her hands that hadn't been there when Sarah had seen her last.
"What did you find?" Sarah asked, her voice steady despite the pounding in her chest.
Emily reached into her bag, pulling out a worn leather journal. The spine was cracked, the pages yellowed with age. She placed it on the table between them, her hand lingering on the cover.
