Chapter 6
Detective's Silence
Heesung attempts to interview retired Detective Park, who investigated Min's case in 1985. Park is gruff and evasive, his silence speaking volumes and fueling Heesung's suspicion that the official story might be incomplete.
The worn leather of the armchair creaked in protest as Heesung shifted his weight. Dust motes danced in the single shaft of afternoon sun that dared to pierce the gloom of Detective Park’s study. The air hung thick with the scent of old paper, stale pipe smoke, and something else, something metallic and faintly unsettling, like forgotten blood. Heesung smoothed his pink hair, a stark splash of color against the room’s muted palette, and tried to project an air of calm, professional curiosity. It was a practiced facade, one he’d honed on countless film sets, but here, in the presence of the man who’d closed the book on Min’s story, it felt fragile.

His eyes, small and sharp like a bird of prey’s, regarded Heesung with a mixture of suspicion and weary resignation. He hadn't offered Heesung a drink, hadn't even invited him to sit properly. Heesung had simply followed him into this tomb of a room, the unspoken invitation hanging in the air like a judgment.
"You're the actor," Park grunted, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate in Heesung’s very bones. He didn't ask it as a question; it was a statement of fact, delivered with a dismissive wave of his hand.
