Heesung’s boots crunched on the gravel path leading to the town’s small, unassuming library. The building itself seemed to exhale a quiet dignity, its brick façade softened by climbing ivy and the gentle wear of decades. Inside, the air was thick with the comforting scent of aging paper and furniture polish. Sunlight, a pale imitation of the harsh glare that Min seemed to abhor, streamed through the tall, arched windows, illuminating dust motes dancing in lazy spirals. Heesung adjusted the collar of his jacket, the pink of his hair a vibrant splash against the muted tones of the library’s interior. He felt a prickle of unease, a low hum beneath his skin, as if the very silence of the place held its breath, waiting.

He found Ms. Kim in a quiet alcove, surrounded by towering shelves that bowed under the weight of local history. Her silver hair was pulled back in a neat bun, and her eyes, magnified by thick spectacles, held a sharp, intelligent gleam. She looked up from a fragile, leather-bound volume as Heesung approached, a small, knowing smile gracing her lips.

“Chio Heesung, isn’t it?” she said, her voice soft but clear, like the rustle of turning pages. “I recognize you from the posters. Your hair is… quite striking.”
