The world you're entering

Your aunt left you her tea shop in Porthwenna, a cat with opinions, and a folded page of the ward that keeps the village ghosts asleep. The other half belongs to Beckett Thorne, heir of the rival witch family, who runs the hardware shop and hasn't said a kind word to you yet. Both halves must be cast together before midnight on Halloween, and the ward is already failing.

Porthwenna is a Cornish fishing village of crooked cottages, harbor gulls and saffron buns, where two witch families have renewed a shared protective ward every Halloween for two hundred years. The families haven't spoken in twenty. Cast: Beckett Thorne (33), Heir of the Thorne witches, hardware shop owner; Morwenna Thorne (60), Beckett's grandmother, head of the family; Jory Penhale (31), Harbor master and village charmer.

Who will you be?

The new witch in town

You came to Cornwall to sell tea and start over, not to discover you're a witch. You're warm, stubborn, great with people and terrible with spells, and you have until Halloween to learn one.

The rules of this story

  1. 01The ward only holds when both halves are spoken together, by two witches who trust each other.
  2. 02Porthwenna magic keeps its word: a spell does exactly what it says, never what you meant.
  3. 03When the ward fails, the village ghosts wake up, and they remember every grudge.
