Ella and Evan learn of Thomas's escape and face new threats. They strengthen their resolve and seek help from the police. A surprise attack leads to a decisive confrontation, ending with Ella realizing the storm may never fully pass.
The telegram lay on the table, its words a cold blade between them. Ella stared at the paper, the ink blurring as tears welled in her eyes. Evan’s hand trembled as he set it down, his face pale. “He broke out last night. They believe he had help from inside.”
Ella felt the floor tilt beneath her. She gripped the edge of the table, steadying herself. “How? How is this possible?”
“The prison warden said he had accomplices. They overpowered a guard and fled. They are searching, but…” He did not finish. The silence said what words could not.
