After discovering a white rose and note from Thomas at their window, Ella and Evan intensify security and decide to confront Thomas in prison. During the visit, Thomas taunts them with hints of a hidden accomplice. Returning home, they receive urgent news that Mrs. Gable has been attacked, forcing them to race back to the city.
The white rose lay on the windowsill, its petals pale and cold in the moonlight. Ella’s fingers trembled as she pulled Evan closer, the thorn-prick on her palm a sharp reminder that Thomas was not just a memory—he was a shadow that refused to fade.
“How did he get past the guards?” Evan’s voice was low, his jaw tight. He took the note from her hand, reading it again. “I am always with you.”
“He must have had help,” Ella whispered. “Someone inside the estate.”
