The air in the small, stone chamber grew heavy, not with dust or damp, but with a profound, sorrowful stillness. Andrei and Mihai stood before the spectral figure of the hermit, his form shimmering like heat haze rising from a summer meadow, yet his eyes held the depth of ancient, frozen lakes. He had spoken of the stones, of their power, and now, a different story began to unfold, one etched in regret.

"You see these stones," the hermit's voice, a rustle of dry leaves, seemed to echo from a time long past, "They are the heart of this village, the memory of its people, the breath of the mountains themselves. They spoke of imbalance, of a darkness stirring in the deep places, a shadow that fed on innocence."

Mihai shivered, his earlier bravado replaced by a prickle of fear. He clutched Andrei’s arm, his gaze fixed on the spectral hermit. Andrei, ever observant, noticed the subtle tremor in the hermit’s form, a ripple of pain that seemed to vibrate through the very air.
