Chapter 9
The Weaver's Mark
A cryptic message leads Elara to a hidden Weaver outpost. She finds clues about their grand design and their connection to her own downfall.
The air in the hidden alcove tasted of dust and forgotten secrets. Elara traced the intricate symbol etched into the rough-hewn stone, a coiled serpent biting its own tail. The Weavers of Fate. She’d seen it before, a faint echo in the periphery of her vision during her most disastrous chronomantic misstep, the one that had landed her in exile. Now, it pulsed with a malevolent energy, a beacon in the gloom of this abandoned Weaver outpost.
The Lattice, nestled securely in its padded pouch against her hip, hummed a low, resonant frequency, a counterpoint to the oppressive silence. It felt… wary. Here, in this chamber, the air was thick with the residue of temporal manipulation, a faint scent of ozone and regret. Scattered across a stone table were brittle parchments, their ink faded but the intent chillingly clear. Schematics of temporal anchors, diagrams of paradox containment fields, and what looked like a meticulously detailed family tree, stretching back millennia, with names Elara didn't recognize, punctuated by ominous annotations.
