The sterile scent of the clinic, once a harbinger of dread, now held a faint promise. John sat across from Dr. Reed, the fluorescent lights casting a harsh glow on her kind, perceptive eyes. He’d confessed everything, the shame a heavy cloak he’d worn for too long. But Melissa’s unwavering belief, her fierce love that had refused to flicker even in the darkest moments, had finally chipped away at the wall of denial he’d built around himself. Today, he was ready to truly commit.
“It’s… it’s hard to say it out loud,” John began, his voice raspy, unused to such raw honesty. “But I’m ready. I want to do this. For me. For us.” He met Dr. Reed’s gaze, a plea and a promise in his own.
Dr. Reed offered a gentle smile. “That’s a monumental step, John. Acknowledging the need for change is often the hardest part. What makes you feel ready now?”
