As the group prepares to leave Jenara, a surprise transmission from Syndicate Commander Voss offers a dangerous deal: the location of the real empathic children in exchange for Kylie. Xander discovers the children at the neutral-space facility are synthetic decoys. The pack must decide whether to trust a known enemy, leading to a tense standoff and a new plan involving a risky infiltration.
Dawn broke over Jenara, casting long shadows across the hangar. Xander stood with Lena, watching as Ryn performed final checks on the transport ship. The vessel was larger than their previous shuttle, armed with stealth capabilities Mara had scavenged from a wrecked Syndicate cruiser. Kylie, still pale but steadier after a night of rest, joined them, a determined set to her jaw.
"You sure you're ready for this?" Xander asked.
"I've been ready for ten years." Kylie's voice was firm, but her eyes betrayed a flicker of fear. "We save those kids, then we end the Syndicate."
