Chapter 9: The Healing Bond
Xander, Kylie, and the group escape the Syndicate cruiser through an asteroid field and arrive at the resistance base on Jenara. Kylie's empathic seizure stabilizes under Elara's care, and Xander shares a heartfelt conversation with his sister, deepening their bond. They learn the resistance has another operation to save the children, giving them renewed purpose.
The shuttle shuddered as Ryn wove through the asteroid field, each jagged rock a near miss. Xander clutched Kylie's hand, her skin clammy and pale. Lena braced herself beside them, her eyes fixed on the viewport, where the Syndicate cruiser's blasts melted asteroids into glowing debris.
"We're losing them!" Ryn shouted, pulling the controls hard to starboard. The ship groaned, but he held steady. "One more turn and we're through."
Elara knelt beside Kylie, monitoring a handheld scanner. "Her neural activity is stabilizing, but she needs rest. The feedback from the severed link is still dangerous."
