Chapter 6
Confronting the Past
Elias and Silas confront their adversaries. Elias uses his spectral connection to expose the truth to the city, while Silas provides the rational support needed to bring closure to the war's lingering shadows.

Elias, his straw hat tilted just so against the perpetual gloom, stopped abruptly, a hand flying to his temple. Silas, ever the picture of grounded pragmatism, adjusted his own hat, the brim casting a shadow over his spectacles. "What is it now, Elias? Another phantom sighing about lost buttons?"

Silas peered at the decaying facade, his brow furrowed. The building was a skeletal ruin, its windows like vacant eyes staring out at a world that had long since moved on. "Angrier? Elias, it's an old building. Buildings get dilapidated. They don't get 'angry'." Yet, even as he spoke, a shiver traced its way down his spine. There was an undeniable aura about the place, a palpable stillness that felt less like abandonment and more like a held breath.
