Chapter 5
Guardians of Silence
A shadowy figure or group, threatened by the revelation of buried truths, emerges. They actively try to thwart Elias and Silas, determined to keep the secrets of the forgotten war concealed.
The perpetual twilight of the district seemed to deepen, not with the coming of night, but with a thickening of its own inherent gloom. Elias, his straw hat tilted low against a nonexistent sun, felt it first – a subtle shift in the air, a hum beneath the usual cacophony of spectral whispers that only he could perceive. His gaze swept over the grimy facades, the shuttered windows, the skeletal branches of forgotten trees clawing at the bruised sky. "Feel what, Elias? The usual city grit settling on my lapels? Or perhaps the gnawing suspicion that we're chasing phantoms again?" His tone was dry, a familiar counterpoint to Elias's often ethereal pronouncements. Yet, even Silas, with his steadfast pragmatism, couldn't entirely dismiss the palpable tension that had settled over them.
