Chapter 16
Confrontation and Deception
Agents sent by Grandmother Rehab make contact, attempting to lure Kiara back. She narrowly evades them, her resourcefulness tested under pressure.
The humid Bangkok air, once a balm to Kiara’s frayed nerves, now felt thick with an invisible threat. A cold dread, a sensation she knew all too well, began to seep into her bones.
She glanced around, her heart hammering against her ribs. There was no sign of Milano, no friendly face to anchor her. These men, she knew instinctively, were not here for pleasantries. They carried the same air of menace that had clung to her step-father, the same chilling authority that had dictated her every move for years. Grandmother Rehab. The name echoed in her mind, a sharp, discordant note.
