The late afternoon sun cast long, distorted shadows across the cracked asphalt of what was once a bustling midway. From his discreet vantage point across the dusty road, perched atop the gleaming chrome of his own impeccably maintained, albeit soulless, mobile entertainment unit – a monstrosity he affectionately called "Silas’s Super-Sized Spectacle" – Silas Croft surveyed the scene with a gaze as sharp and predatory as a hawk’s. A slow, satisfied smile spread across his lips, revealing teeth that were just a shade too white, too perfect. Kayson, the boy with the perpetually bewildered expression and a knack for tripping over his own feet, was indeed struggling. And Silas Croft, ever the opportunist, saw not a struggling teenager, but a golden opportunity.

His empire, built on a foundation of flashing lights, synthesized music, and aggressively cheerful (and suspiciously uniform) staff, was the antithesis of this dilapidated place. Yet, this place, this memory of a bygone era, held a certain… charm. A charm Silas couldn't replicate, but one he could certainly acquire. The annual town festival was just a fortnight away. Kayson had until then to whip this chaotic mess into something resembling a functioning carnival, or the land, prime real estate nestled conveniently near the town square, would revert to the bank, and Silas would swoop in like a vulture with a business plan.
