Chapter 9
The Return of Hope
The scent of pine and damp earth clung to Kai like a second skin, a comforting embrace after the long journey. He clutched the small, woven pouch in his hand, its contents a precious, shimmering secret. The air thrummed with a familiar anxiety, a low hum beneath the chirping of unseen birds and the rustle of leaves. He could feel it, a tangible weight pressing down on the heart of his home, the sickness that had stolen the strength from his pack.

Her silver hair seemed to catch the dappled sunlight, and even from a distance, Kai could sense the quiet strength that radiated from her. He hurried towards her, his small legs pumping with renewed purpose.
