The scooter sputtered to a halt, not with a dramatic cough or a wheezing sigh, but with a surprisingly gentle phut. Baba Yaga, who had been leaning into the wind with a triumphant grin plastered across her face, wobbled slightly. Anya, clinging to her like a barnacle to a ship’s hull, let out a small gasp. The Talking Crow, perched precariously on Baba Yaga’s shoulder, ruffled his feathers indignantly. "See? I told you this infernal contraption had a mind of its own," he grumbled, his voice a dry rustle of leaves.

Baba Yaga, however, wasn't listening. Her gaze was fixed ahead, her eyes wide with wonder. "Anya, my dear," she breathed, her voice a low murmur of awe, "look."

Before them, nestled in a gentle valley, was a village. But this was no ordinary village. From its cobbled streets to the thatched roofs of its charming houses, it pulsed with a vibrant, infectious energy. Lanterns, in every conceivable shape and hue, bobbed and swayed from trees, hung from balconies, and were carried by the throng of people milling about. Laughter, like the tinkling of tiny bells, drifted on the evening air, mingling with the sweet scent of roasted nuts and something floral, something intoxicating. Music, a lively accordion melody punctuated by the joyous beat of a drum, spilled from an unseen source, urging feet to tap and hips to sway.
