The sterile scent of antiseptic clung to Karina like a second skin, a cloying perfume that did little to mask the acrid tang of fear. Days blurred into a monotonous cycle of hospital beige and hushed whispers. Her body, a bruised and battered vessel, was slowly mending, but her spirit remained fractured, tethered to the phantom ache of a past trauma.
