The wind, once a playful whisper, now howled with a frigid malice, tearing at their cloaks and biting at their exposed skin. Snowflakes, sharp as shards of glass, stung their eyes, blurring the already treacherous path ahead. They had emerged from the relative shelter of Veridian’s bustling markets and cascading falls into a desolate expanse of ice and wind, a landscape that seemed determined to swallow them whole. Elara, her breath misting in the frigid air, pulled her hood tighter, her gaze scanning the swirling white chaos. Kael, ever the observer, pointed a gloved finger. “Look! Up ahead!”

Through the tempest, a dark, jagged silhouette began to take shape. It wasn’t a natural formation of ice; it was too sharp, too purposeful. As they drew closer, the form resolved into a hulking creature of shadow and ice, its eyes two malevolent points of frozen blue light. It moved with a lumbering gait, each step crunching ominously on the frozen ground, and a guttural growl rumbled from its chest, a sound that seemed to vibrate through the very ice beneath their feet.

“A Frostfang!” Finn exclaimed, his voice tight with alarm. He instinctively moved to stand in front of Elara and Kael, his broad shoulders a shield. “I’ve heard the old tales. They guard the frozen passes, drawn to warmth and life.”
