Chapter 7
The Weight of Silence
The silence in the room was a tangible thing, a heavy blanket woven from the hum of machines and the soft rustle of starched fabric. Today, her gaze lingered a moment longer than usual, a flicker of something I couldn’t quite decipher – concern, perhaps, or a shared burden. She’d adjusted my pillow, her hand brushing mine, and for a fleeting instant, a warmth, a connection, had bloomed between us. Then she was gone, leaving the silence to reclaim its dominion.
