The Shadow of the Self
Leon wakes early and trains with Seeker. Rune summons an urgent meeting after a vision from the second crystal reveals a ghostly guardian spirit from the temple. The spirit offers Leon a secret trial to unlock a deeper connection to his god blood before the tournament. Leon accepts and faces a shadow version of himself, learning to master fear and gaining a new flame-veiled power. The chapter ends with renewed resolve and a hint that Kain has planted spies in the kingdom.
The first light of dawn painted the sky in shades of amber and rose. Leon woke before the others, his body restless. He slipped out of the hut and walked to the training grounds, where a few early risers were already stretching their limbs.
Seeker stood alone, his blade drawn, moving through a slow, deliberate form. The blade caught the light like water. He did not look up, but he spoke. "Couldn't sleep?"
"Too much on my mind." Leon picked up a wooden practice sword and matched Seeker's stance. He had learned a few basics from Maliko, but his movements were still clumsy.
