Chapter 5
Echoes of Love
The empty tomb image sparks a realization: Grandma may be gone, but the love and memories she left behind are like precious trinkets, still warm and present.
Chapter 5
Lily traced the outline of the empty tomb on the faded print tacked to her wall. It was a picture Grandma had given her, a picture that used to make her feel safe, like a secret whispered just for her. Now, it just looked… empty. Like her days felt. Like her heart felt. Grandma wasn’t here to fill them anymore. Lily’s desk, a chaotic landscape of colorful crayons, half-finished drawings, a worn teddy bear named Barnaby, and a tiny, chipped ceramic angel, seemed to echo the jumble inside her. Each item was a memory, a little piece of Grandma, and sometimes, looking at them made Lily feel a sharp ache, a reminder of what was gone.
“It’s not fair,” she’d whispered to Barnaby just yesterday, her voice thick with unshed tears. “Why do good things have to end? Why do the best people have to leave?” She’d even felt a flicker of anger, hot and uncomfortable, towards Grandma for leaving her. How could she be gone when there were still so many stories to hear, so many cookies to bake, so many hugs waiting? It felt like a betrayal, a terrible, unfair trick. Lily knew it wasn't Grandma’s fault, not really, but the confusion swirled around her like a mist, making it hard to see clearly.
