The air in the small, stifling room was thick with the scent of stale cigarettes and desperation. Elara sat across from her brothers, Douglas, Kim, and Jeffrey, the weight of their collective gaze pressing down on her like a physical force. They spoke of marriage, of alliances, of futures that had nothing to do with her heart. Douglas, ever the pragmatist, laid out the plan with the cold precision of a stockbroker dissecting a losing portfolio. Michael Solo Puerto, a man Elara had found a quiet comfort in, a man who saw her, truly saw her, was deemed unsuitable. "He has no prospects, Elara," Douglas had stated, his voice devoid of emotion. "He cannot provide for you, cannot uphold the family name."

Kim, his jealousy a palpable current beneath his words, chimed in, "And you think *you* know what's best? After everything? You'd throw away a chance at security for some pipe dream?" His eyes, usually darting and evasive, held a steely glint, a reflection of the deep-seated resentment that festered within him. He couldn't forgive her, not for her quiet resilience, not for the way she seemed to embody the very stability their own lives lacked.

Jeffrey, his gaze unnervingly fixed on Elara, added his own brand of venom. "You've always been too much of a dreamer, Elara. Too… innocent. It's time to face reality." But Elara knew his "reality" was a twisted reflection of his own desires, a landscape painted with his unnatural feelings and a desperate need to control. He saw her not as a sister, but as a pawn, a means to an end he couldn't quite articulate.
