Elara confronts Liam, demanding an explanation for his actions. The air is thick with unspoken regrets and the weight of broken trust.

The scent of brewing coffee, usually a comforting balm, hung heavy and acrid in Elara’s small kitchen. It was a smell that had, for years, signaled the start of a shared day, a quiet domestic rhythm. Now, it felt like a taunt. She watched Liam, his back to her, hunched over the worn wooden table, his shoulders tight under the faded blue of his favorite sweatshirt. The morning sun, usually a cheerful intruder, cast sharp, accusatory shadows across the room, highlighting the dust motes dancing in the strained air.

“Liam,” she said, her voice low, a fragile thing that threatened to shatter. It wasn’t a question, but a demand, a dam finally cracking.

He didn’t turn. His grip tightened on the mug, his knuckles whitening. The silence stretched, taut and suffocating, punctuated only by the rhythmic drip of the coffee maker, each drop a tiny hammer blow against her fraying nerves.
