Marcus Bellweather, ever the eager acolyte, leaned forward, his eyes fixed on Richard with an almost desperate adoration. Jessica White, a nervous tremor running through her small frame, huddled in her seat, her fingers dancing a frantic, silent rhythm on her tablet. Eleanor Vance, the quiet anchor of their group, watched them all, her expression unreadable, a faint, almost imperceptible frown etched between her brows.

“We are at the precipice,” Richard’s voice, though low, cut through the silence like a honed blade. “Fifty billion dollars. A legacy. And it all hinges on this final step.” He stopped pacing, his eyes sweeping across their faces, lingering for a fraction of a second longer on Tammy, then Jessica. “The merger is on the verge of completion. All the paperwork is in order. The board approvals are secured. All that remains is… the final signature.”

He paused, letting the weight of his words settle. “But our esteemed competitor, Mr. Sterling, has proven… unexpectedly resilient. His recent legal challenges have been… inconvenient. And his tenacity in refusing our offer has become a significant obstacle.” Richard’s jaw tightened. “An obstacle that needs to be removed.”
