Ella goes into labor on Christmas Eve and gives birth to a healthy baby girl on Christmas Day. She and Evan name her Melody for the joy she brings. The family celebrates the new arrival, and even Eleanor Raymond sends a warm note of welcome.
The winter wind howled outside the estate, rattling the windows as the household prepared for Christmas. Evergreens adorned the halls, and the scent of cinnamon and cloves filled the air. Ella, now eight months along, moved slowly through the drawing room, placing a final ornament on the tree while Lily watched from the sofa, her legs swinging.
“Mama, is the baby coming soon?” Lily asked, her eyes wide with anticipation.
Ella smiled, resting a hand on her swollen belly. “Soon, my dear. The doctor says any day now.”
