The morning after the fire at St. Mary’s, the estate felt heavy with unspoken fears. Ella stood by the window in the library, watching the garden stir to life. The roses were in full bloom, their crimson petals a defiant splash of color against the gray sky. She held the crumpled letter from Thomas in her hand, the words burned into her memory: You cannot stop the tide. I will have my revenge.
Evan entered quietly, a tray of tea in his hands. “You did not sleep,” he said, setting it down.
“Neither did you.” Ella turned, forcing a small smile. “I keep thinking about Alice, about how easily Thomas turned her into a weapon. How many others are there?”
