The air in the cottage, once thick with the scent of pine and damp earth, now hummed with a different kind of energy. It was a quiet resonance, a shared breath between father and son, a melody that had been composed in the heart of the Whispering Woods and played out in the crucible of their shared ordeal. Werner sat by the hearth, the fire’s warm glow painting dancing patterns on his face, a face that had seen too much fear and too much wonder in a short span of time. He glanced at Pappa, who was meticulously cleaning a collection of smooth, grey stones, each one etched with faint, swirling lines that seemed to writhe in the firelight.

"They're quiet now," Werner murmured, his voice still a little rough, like stones tumbled smooth by a river. He meant the woods, of course. The frantic, desperate whispers that had clawed at his mind, the chilling chorus of fear that had echoed through the ancient trees, had receded. Now, there was a gentle, contented murmur, a soft sigh of relief that permeated the very air they breathed.

Pappa looked up, his eyes, usually filled with a deep, knowing calm, now held a new layer of softness, a profound tenderness that Werner hadn’t seen before. "They are healing, Werner. And so are we." He gestured with one of the stones, its surface cool and smooth against his calloused thumb. "This is how they speak, you know. Not just with rustling leaves, but with vibrations, with the very earth beneath our feet. They speak in patterns, in the flow of energy."
