The air in the Whispering Woods, usually alive with the gentle hum of unseen life, had grown heavy. A stillness, not of peace but of apprehension, settled like a shroud over the ancient trees. Elara, who had begun to feel the forest’s pulse as an extension of her own, felt the shift acutely. It was a subtle discordance, a sour note in the symphony of nature she was only just learning to appreciate. The leaves, once vibrant emerald, now bore a sickly pallor, their edges curling as if touched by an invisible frost. The babbling brook, its waters usually so clear they mirrored the sky, flowed sluggishly, its surface clouded with a murky film.

Lykos, his fur the color of twilight, was more than just a shadow; he was a sentinel. His golden eyes, usually alight with ancient wisdom, were now narrowed, scanning the deepening gloom with an intensity that sent a shiver down Elara’s spine. He moved with a restless grace, his paws barely disturbing the fallen leaves, his senses stretched taut.

“Something is wrong, Elara,” he murmured, his voice a low rumble that seemed to vibrate from the very earth. “A sickness… it spreads from the shadows.”
