A Glimpse of the Tear
Elara uses the jeans to view the cosmic tear directly. It's a gaping wound in the universe, pulsing with a malevolent energy, threatening to consume everything.
Elara stood before her reflection, the Starlight Jeans fitting as if they’d been spun from her very own dreams. The denim, the color of a midnight sky just before dawn, felt impossibly soft against her skin, and the ric-rac trim, usually a whisper of pink, now pulsed with a faint, internal luminescence. She’d spent days with Elder Lyra, practicing the gentle art of listening to the universe, of feeling the celestial threads hum beneath her fingertips. But today was different. Today, Lyra had instructed her to look.
“The jeans are not just for seeing the stars, child,” Lyra’s voice, like wind chimes made of moonlight, had echoed in Elara’s mind during their last session. “They are a window. A window to what is, and what might be.”
Taking a deep breath, Elara focused. She thought of the frayed edges of reality, the unsettling chill that sometimes crept into her workshop, the way the starlight seemed to dim on certain nights. She willed the jeans to show her.
