The air in Elder Lyra’s celestial attic, usually thick with the comforting scent of ancient threads and dried moonflowers, now held a prickle of unease. Elara, still clad in the starlight jeans, felt it deep in her bones, a tremor that mirrored the faint, unsettling hum emanating from the cosmic tapestry Lyra had unfurled. Pip, perched on Elara’s shoulder, puffed out his chest, a tiny, defiant guardian of fluff.

Lyra’s voice, usually as soft as a moth’s wing, was now edged with a gravity that settled over them like a shroud. She gestured with a gnarled finger, adorned with a ring that pulsed with the faint light of a dying star, towards a place on the unfurled fabric where the threads seemed to writhe, not with the gentle dance of distant nebulae, but with a hungry, consuming darkness.

“This, child,” Lyra began, her eyes, pools of ancient wisdom, fixed on the swirling void, “is not merely a tear. It is a hunger. A gnawing emptiness that seeks to devour all that is bright and beautiful.”
