Chapter 6
Welcome to Cloud Haven
Elara arrives in a village made of clouds, met by playful Cloud Cats. The Queen of the Clouds, majestic and wise, greets her, acknowledging her unique journey and offering a chance for a wish.
The air grew thin and sweet, carrying the scent of rain before it fell, a perfume Elara had only ever encountered in her grandmother’s stories. Below, the familiar patchwork of fields and hedgerows dwindled, a tapestry of greens and browns receding into a hazy memory. Above, the world dissolved into an endless, luminous expanse of white. And then, as if the very sky had exhaled a sigh of pure wonder, it appeared.
It wasn't a solid mass, not like the sturdy stone houses of her village. Instead, it was a collection of structures that seemed to be woven from mist and moonlight, shimmering with an inner luminescence. Towers spiraled upwards like exhalations of breath, bridges arced like frozen rainbows, and soft, billowy forms suggested dwellings that might shift and reform with the gentle currents of the atmosphere. This was Cloud Haven, the Cloud Village, a place born from whispers and dreams, now solid and breathtakingly real before Elara’s disbelieving eyes.
A soft rustling sound drew her attention. From behind a particularly plump-looking cloud-building, a pair of eyes, the colour of summer twilight, blinked open. Then another pair, this time the bright, inquisitive blue of a forget-me-not. Soon, a whole cascade of them emerged, a playful, flowing tide of creatures that were undeniably cats, yet unlike any Elara had ever seen. Their fur was the texture of spun cloud, soft and impossibly white, their tails long and wispy, trailing like tendrils of fog. Some had paws that seemed to tread lightly on the very air, leaving no impression, while others batted playfully at motes of sunlight that danced in the ethereal atmosphere. These were the Cloud Cats, the guardians and companions of this celestial realm.
