The air grew thicker, laced with the damp scent of decaying leaves and the sharp tang of pine. Elara, her boots crunching softly on the mossy carpet, felt a subtle shift in the forest’s atmosphere. It wasn't just the deepening shadows or the way the sunlight struggled to pierce the dense canopy; it was a feeling, a resonance that hummed beneath her skin. She’d been following a barely-there trail, a deer path perhaps, that had branched off from the more familiar routes. A small clearing, bathed in a single, ethereal shaft of sunlight, and in its center, a humble dwelling. It looked more like it had grown from the earth itself than been built. Walls of rough-hewn logs, a roof thatched with straw and moss, and a wisp of smoke curling lazily from a crooked chimney. Beside it, a small, meticulously tended garden bloomed with herbs Elara recognized from her studies, their scents mingling in the still air.
