Chapter 7 — The River of First Dreams
Boon and Kael flee through the tunnel and reach the river of first dreams. The Keeper confronts them but cannot cross the river. After a moment of vulnerability, Kael reveals why he stays: he wants to see Boon believe in something good again. They walk across the river together and arrive at the Garden of First Threads, where a child's voice calls to Boon, deepening their bond as they face the unknown.
The tunnel curved sharply, the silver light at their feet flowing faster now, as if the stream itself was pulling them forward. Boon ran with her hand outstretched, the thread on her wrist pulsing in rhythm with the glow ahead. Kael kept pace beside her, his breath ragged, the lantern swinging wildly from his grip.
“How far does this go?” he asked, his voice echoing off the stone walls.
“I don’t know,” Boon admitted. “The old woman said the river of first dreams. I think that’s what we’re following.”
