Chapter 15
The Confrontation
Alex arranges a meeting with Thorne, playing on his ego. In a tense exchange, Alex presents the evidence, forcing Thorne’s carefully constructed facade to begin crumbling under the weight of his crimes.
The worn leather of the booth creaked as Alex settled in, the low hum of the diner a stark contrast to the cacophony that still echoed in his mind. Then, he saw him. Commander Thorne, resplendent in a tailored suit that seemed too clean, too crisp for the grimy diner, strode in with an air of practiced confidence. He scanned the room, his eyes, sharp and assessing, eventually landing on Alex. A flicker of something – surprise? Annoyance? – crossed his face before it smoothed into a polite, professional mask. He approached Alex’s booth, a faint, almost patronizing smile playing on his lips.
