The air in the hunting lodge, once a sanctuary of quiet elegance, now crackled with a different kind of tension. Mihail, barely a man, felt it in the tightening of his jaw, the restless energy that coiled in his gut. His forbidden affection for Anna, the peasant girl with eyes like a twilight sky, had escalated from a clandestine whisper to a dangerous roar. He had ridden out to meet her, the memory of her shy smile and the forbidden thrill of their stolen moments a balm against the rigid discipline of his upbringing. But instead of her familiar grace, he found the King’s men. Their presence was a chilling omen, their stern faces devoid of the warmth he associated with the estate. He learned, with a sickening lurch, that Anna had been taken. Not just removed, but forcibly sent away, banished to America, to Pennsylvania, a place that felt as distant and alien as the moon. The news ignited something fierce within him, a spark that had long smoldered beneath the veneer of obedience. His rebellious nature, carefully suppressed by years of military training and the suffocating expectations of his noble guardians, flared into a consuming fire. He found himself drawn to the hushed conversations in the local tavern, to the men who spoke of challenging the King, of reclaiming what was rightfully theirs. He joined their ranks, a prince in disguise, fueled by a desperate, burning need to find Anna. One evening, as the shadows lengthened and the scent of ale hung heavy in the air, his companions sought him out. Their faces, usually etched with defiant camaraderie, were now tight with worry. They spoke of a plot, a brutal plan to eliminate every rebel, every voice raised against the crown. The news struck Mihail like a physical blow. He knew, with a certainty that chilled him to the bone, that his pursuit of Anna had placed him directly in the crosshairs of a deadly game. Just then, Andrew, the stern man who had raised him, his face a mask of cold fury, confronted him. "What is this I hear about rebels?" Andrew demanded, his voice a low growl. "Is it true?" Mihail met his gaze, the truth a single, unyielding beacon in the storm of his emotions. "I'm leaving," he stated, his voice steady despite the tremor in his hands. "I'm going to find Anna." The words hung in the air, a declaration of independence that shattered the fragile peace of their world. Andrew's face contorted with rage. His hand, rough and calloused from years of managing the estate, lashed out, striking Mihail across the cheek with a force that drew blood. The sting was immediate, a sharp reminder of his subordinate position, but it was nothing compared to the searing pain of Andrew’s betrayal. "You will do no such thing," Andrew spat, his eyes blazing. "You stay here. You will manage this estate, this horse farm. You will not bring shame upon our name with such foolishness." But Mihail’s resolve was set. That night, under the cloak of darkness, he slipped away. With the quiet, unwavering support of his companions, one in particular named Bela, who risked his own life and the lives of his family, Mihail was hidden. They spirited him away, their actions a silent testament to their loyalty and their belief in his cause, a cause that now had a singular, driving purpose: to find Anna, no matter the cost.
