The air in Elder Borin’s hut always smelled like dried herbs and damp wool, a scent that usually made me feel a profound sense of cozy, if slightly musty, security. Today, however, it felt like a suffocating shroud. Lyra and I stood before him, our hands still tingling from the… well, from whatever it was we’d done to that rather aggressive patch of glow-moss. It had been trying to eat the village’s prize-winning pumpkin, which, in Eldoria, is basically a declaration of war.

“So,” Borin grunted, his bushy eyebrows practically knitting themselves into a single, formidable unit. He sat hunched over his usual knot of carved wooden figures, his fingers tracing the familiar lines as if seeking solace in their predictable shapes. “You’re telling me,” he began, his voice like stones grinding together, “that you two… *tickled* the moss into submission?”

Lyra, ever the optimist, beamed. “More like a vigorous, synchronized shimmy! It was quite spectacular, really. The way it recoiled, all flustered and green.”
