The salt spray kissed Theron’s face, a familiar caress that had once been a symbol of his exile, but now, a promise of home. The captured Ottoman galleon, its once proud banners now replaced with Eldorian colors, sailed majestically alongside his own ship, *The Serpent’s Kiss*. The victory had been swift, the booty rich, and the morale of his crew, now swelled by the newly acquired sailors, was higher than the crow’s nest. Yet, amidst the cheers and the clinking of mugs, Theron’s gaze often drifted towards the horizon, a quiet contemplation settling upon him.

He’d heard the songs, of course. Boisterous ballads sung in taverns from the Serpent’s Isles to the fringes of the Crimson Sea, tales of the Pirate King who dared defy empires and plunder the opulent fleets of the Sultan. They spoke of his cunning, his bravery, his uncanny ability to find treasure where others saw only the crushing weight of the ocean. Some were exaggerated, some were wildly inaccurate, but all of them, in their own way, fueled the legend that was slowly, irrevocably, becoming his new reality.

“My King,” a voice boomed, snapping Theron from his reverie. It was Silas, his grizzled first mate, a man whose loyalty was as unshakeable as the ocean floor. “You seem a thousand leagues away, even with the taste of victory so fresh.”
