He traced the glowing lines of spreadsheets projected onto the wall, a digital tapestry woven with deceit and exploitation. Anya sat beside him, her usual guarded posture softened by the shared focus, her eyes reflecting the cool, sterile light. They had spent days like this, hunched over data, piecing together fragments of a colossal crime.

“It’s here,” Elias murmured, his voice raspy with fatigue. He pointed a trembling finger at a column of figures, a seemingly innocuous entry buried deep within a cascade of transactions. “Look at the depreciation schedule. It’s… it’s fundamentally flawed. They’re exploiting a loophole so obscure, so laughably specific, that only someone who’s spent a decade auditing depreciation schedules for multinational corporations would even recognize it.”

Anya leaned closer, her brow furrowed. “A loophole? That’s what we’ve been looking for? A clerical error?”
