The hum of the archive was a constant companion, a low thrum that vibrated through the soles of Elara’s worn boots and settled deep within her bones. It was the sound of forgotten moments, of lives meticulously cataloged and then left to gather dust. But lately, the hum felt different, laced with a discordant note, a subtle tremor that spoke not of preservation, but of decay.
