The last lingering tendrils of the unsettling energy that had clung to Oakhaven like a damp shroud began to dissipate. It was a subtle shift, like the slow unfurling of a tightly clenched fist, and only Danguolė, with her finely tuned senses, could truly feel its departure. The air, once thick with a low hum of anxiety and suspicion, now felt lighter, cleaner, as if a great sigh had been collectively exhaled by the town.

She stood on the small hill overlooking the village, the late afternoon sun warm on her face. Below, children’s laughter, bright and unburdened, drifted up to her. It was the sound she’d been longing to hear, a melody of normalcy that had been so cruelly disrupted. The market square, which had lately been a place of hushed whispers and averted gazes, was now bustling with its usual friendly chatter. Old Mr. Henderson was arguing good-naturedly with Mrs. Gable over the price of apples, his voice booming with its familiar, jovial tone. The baker, a man whose flour-dusted apron usually hid a worried frown, was leaning against his shop door, a genuine smile creasing his weathered face.

Danguolė’s heart swelled with a quiet sense of accomplishment. It wasn't a triumphant roar, but a gentle, contented hum, much like the whispers she’d learned to weave. The ‘whispering wind,’ as she had come to think of the unsettling force, had been a manifestation of forgotten fears and unspoken regrets, amplified by a misunderstanding rooted deep in the town’s history. It had fed on the town’s unease, growing stronger with every rumour, every sidelong glance. But with Jonas’s steadfast belief and Elara’s long-held, fragmented memories, Danguolė had finally understood its true nature. It wasn’t an evil entity to be fought, but an echo to be soothed, a tangled thread to be gently unwound.
