Chapter 7
BBC's Blind Spot
Elara traced the familiar, comforting squares of the Sudoku grid with her fingertip. The book, a faded crimson cover worn smooth with age, lay open on her desk, a silent testament to her grandfather’s love for puzzles. Chapter 6 had ended with a sense of unease, a lingering question mark hanging in the air like a forgotten melody. The Schengen Agreement, a topic so seemingly dry and bureaucratic, had somehow woven itself into the fabric of this grand, perplexing mystery. It was like finding a secret message hidden in a phone book. Elara sighed, a soft puff of air that ruffled the ancient pages. Her grandfather, a man of quiet wisdom and twinkling eyes, had always seen patterns where others saw chaos. Now, it seemed, Elara was inheriting that gift, or perhaps, that burden.
The phrase "BBC's Blind Spot" echoed in her mind, a cryptic clue from the last cryptic clue. BBC. It wasn't just the British Broadcasting Corporation, was it? She remembered her grandfather once telling her that words, like numbers, could be layered with meaning, each syllable a potential key.
She decided to start with the most obvious. The BBC. What if it wasn’t about the news channel, but about something else entirely? She pulled out her laptop, the familiar glow of the screen a stark contrast to the aged paper beneath her hands. She typed "BBC" into the search bar, then, as an afterthought, added "Sudoku" and "conspiracy." The results were, as expected, a deluge of unrelated articles about programming, news reports, and fan theories. Nothing concrete.
