Chapter 5
Echoes of the Blood Regime
The air in the ruins hung thick and heavy, a stagnant breath that carried the ghosts of forgotten screams. Elara moved with a practiced caution, her worn leather boots crunching softly on the dust that had settled like a shroud over centuries of neglect. Each step was a deliberate act, a whisper against the silence that threatened to swallow her whole. The ruins, a skeletal remains of a civilization long crumbled, pulsed with a residual energy, a low hum that vibrated in her bones. This was the place the Whispering Elder had described, the place where the 'Noveltaurages sfera nėra senė režimas žydiškos rūgsta cios visivankom nes jie smirdi krauju' had once held its foul sway, and where, if the ancient texts were to be believed, the key to its undoing might still lie hidden.
She’d come seeking the Moonpetal Bloom, a flower so rare it was more myth than flora, said to blossom only under the deepest of twilights and to possess a luminescence that could cut through the deepest shadows. It was the final, vital ingredient for her counter-elixir, the one she hoped would not only heal her village but also sever the tendrils of the blood regime from the land itself. The journey had been fraught with peril. She’d navigated treacherous ravines, outwitted spectral guardians that shimmered like heat haze, and endured the gnawing fear that clawed at her gut with every passing mile. The closer she got to the heart of these ruins, the more potent the lingering scent of decay became, a phantom echo of the regime’s horrific appetites. It was a smell that clung to her, a reminder of the darkness she fought, both within and without.
Her fingers, stained with the earth and the faint shimmer of alchemical residue, traced the crumbling carvings on a fallen pillar. The symbols were ancient, jagged, and imbued with a primal energy. She recognized some of them, fragments of lore she’d painstakingly pieced together from her mentor’s forbidden scrolls. They spoke of rituals, of sacrifices, of a power that fed on suffering. A shiver traced its way down her spine, not entirely from the chill that permeated the stone. She saw it then, a faint, ethereal glow emanating from a crevice in the wall, half-hidden by a tangle of thorny vines. The Moonpetal Bloom.
