The elders convene, their discussions filled with unease and contemplation. The success of Skye and Kael's actions forces them to confront the limitations of their rigid traditions.
The air in the ancient grove, usually alive with the rustle of leaves and the contented chirps of the younger raptors, felt heavy, thick with unspoken thoughts. Elder Ror, his scales the color of storm clouds, perched on the highest branch of the oldest oak. Below him, the other elders settled onto weathered stones, their gazes fixed forward, yet their minds clearly elsewhere. The recent events – the swift, decisive action that had driven off the encroaching danger, the unexpected effectiveness of Skye and Kael’s combined efforts – had sent ripples through the sanctuary, unsettling the carefully constructed order of generations.
“The threat has passed,” Elder Ror began, his voice a low rumble, devoid of its usual stern certainty. He watched a flicker of movement in the distance, a flash of Skye’s vibrant, sun-dappled plumage as she played with a clutch of fledglings. A pang, sharp and unexpected, pierced his usual composure. “For now.”
Elder Mara, her feathers a faded parchment hue, shifted on her stone. “And it was passed because of a chase, Ror. A reckless charge. Not the measured strategy we have always employed.” Her tone was not accusatory, but tinged with a deep unease that mirrored Ror’s own.
